The City Market Downtown on 104th Street opens on Saturday, May 18, and to celebrate the start of the outdoor market season, KITCHEN by Brad Smoliak will be open every Saturday.

Before or after you shop the farmers’ market, you can pop by KITCHEN (we are only one block away on 105th Street) and pick up all of your favourite products from the KITCHEN larder. A larder is a cool area for storing food and this larder will be open every Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm from now until Thanksgiving.

The list of products available for purchase will evolve and expand with the season, based on local ingredients and what’s at the peak of the season. Your KITCHEN mainstays will always be ready to buy: Bacon Jam, BBQ rub, Espresso Caramel Sauce and Hot Fudge Sauce. We will also have crème fraiche, Chimichurri sauce (an Argentinian pesto), and a Korean BBQ Sauce. Everything is made fresh so quantities are limited.

Brads product web shotEveryone says the best part of KITCHEN are the cooking demonstrations, where I cook in front of guests and teach them a cooking tip or two. So I will be incorporating cooking demos every Saturday, using ingredients from the market.

Every Saturday at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm, I will put on a cooking demonstration at KITCHEN. My demos will be based on the latest seasonal treasures I find at the market each morning. And yes, there will be samples of what I prepare! What I cook will be very much in the “moment”. I might decide that morning to prepare asparagus from Edgar Farms, or take a different approach to cooking pork sausages from Irvings Farm Fresh. I’ll never set the menus in advance but instead will use the market to inspire what will be cooked that day.

Drop by with your food or cooking questions, enjoy a cooking demo and pick up the KITCHEN products your kitchen needs.

On the occasional Saturday, we will also have Enotri Wines on site pouring wine samples from 11:30am – 2:30pm. This is a wine marketer in the city with products just released to the Edmonton market. Stop by and learn which wines pair with the latest fresh market products.

KITCHEN is located on 105th Street, just North of Jasper Avenue. We are literally one block over from the farmers’ market.

Make KITCHEN a part of your regular Saturday trip to the downtown farmers’ market. I look forward to seeing you at KITCHEN soon.
