She would have been 103 years old this August, so at KITCHEN we are saluting one of the best home cooks/chefs there ever was.

julia-child-620Julia Child brought timeless, classic cooking to a generation of home cooks. Her cookbooks are still a part of any good home chef’s repertoire.

I am creating a cooking class in memory of Julia and her cooking. I’ll teach you her classics, with a few little twists:

  • Flakey pie crust. Lots of people ask me how to make a flaky crust, and Julia did it best. I’ll show you how to make easy and delicious crust for amazing pies and tarts, both sweet and savory.
  • Her classic beef bourguignon. A great dish for entertaining.
  • Cheese soufflé, demystified so you can prepare it for lunch or as an appetizer.
  • Other Julia classics like gravlax, steak au poivre, and pate choux (cream puffs) for both savory and dessert applications.

We are offering two classes and both will be held at KITCHEN:

6:30pm on Wednesday, August 19th 

6:30pm on Wednesday, August 26th

Other KITCHEN Bites….

This summer has been a busy one, and August and September aren’t going to be any different. I am taking part in the Babas and Borshch Ukrainian Festival in Andrew on Sunday, August 23, and Harvest of the Past and Harvest Food Festival at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village on September 13.

We are also working on our fall lineup of wine dinners and other events, so stay tuned. Our September class will be focused on preserving and getting back into normal routines with some easy do-ahead meals and ideas to get ready for fall and back to school.
